Technique

Here are some examples of the kind of technical work we do in the lessons.

Bench Height

Good technique starts with the correct bench height. Careful attention to this one technical aspect alone can solve a myriad of problems before they start.  Please visit The Well-Balanced Pianist for some illustrations and ideas to help you get your bench adjusted correctly at home.

Hand, Wrist and Forearm Alignment

In the photo on the left, Eli was pushing down on his wrist without realizing it. His fingers couldn’t move efficiently because the weight of the arm was not balanced over the fingers. After looking in the mirror he adjusted his hand, wrist and forearm so that they were lined up correctly. Eli calls this alignment his “fancy hands.”
